Private In-Home Training and Behavior Consultations
Professional evaluation of your pet's behavior by a Certified Pet Dog Trainer with a degree in animal behavior.

Customized programs for your pet's individual training needs that will fit your lifestyle and busy schedule.
Personal attention and ongoing professional support throughout the training process.  Train in the comfort of
your own home or meet on location at work, the park, on walks, downtown, or wherever your pet needs training
help.

Behavior Consultation:  Our first meeting will be an initial assessment of your training concerns and goals for
your pet.  During the consultation I will get to know you and your pet by asking questions about your pet's
behaviors, habits, schedule, and even diet and exercise.  I combine this information with your goals to create an
individual training plan.  This process takes about 2 hours to complete.  The fee is $80 and includes 20 miles of
driving, round trip (
There is a charge of $0.45/mile round trip for additional mileage).  We schedule follow up
lessons based on your pet's progress within the training program.

Follow-up Lessons:  I will provide continued guidance through the training and behavior modification process as
it changes to fit your individual needs and your pet's progress.  Each follow up lesson lasts up to 1 hour.  The fee
is $45 and includes up to 20 miles of driving, round trip (
There is a charge of $0.45/mile round trip for additional
mileage).

Discounts Available for adopted, rescued, and service animals.  I offer a $5 discount off of the initial $80 fee for
a behavior consultation to encourage the adoption of unwanted animals and to help them stay in their loving
homes.
I also offer a $5 senior discount and a $5 student discount with current ID.

Canine Good Citizen Testing
I am a certified Canine Good Citizen tester for The American Kennel Club.  The Canine Good Citizen Test was
designed to assess your dog's friendliness, obedience, and safety out in public.  I teach preparatory classes and
coach individuals and I am available to test classes, kennel club groups, or individual dogs upon request.

Training Methods:
Animal-friendly training (no old-fashioned methods based on coercion or the use of force) that fosters mutual respect and
communication between you and your pet so that training can be fun and rewarding!  All of the following methods and
more are used with detailed professional instruction to help you and your pet achieve your training goals.

Positive Reinforcement: a training method in which good
behavior is reinforced with things that your pet finds very
rewarding such as toys, treats, or affection.

Clicker Training: a positive reinforcement training system, based on the scientific principles of operant conditioning, that
uses a clicker (a small device that makes a "click" sound) to tell your pet precisely what it was doing right at that moment
in time.  Each "click" earns your pet a reward (click=treat). Your pet will learn this very quickly and will begin offering
the behaviors you have "clicked", or reinforced, more often.

Nothing in Life is Free: do you sometimes feel like you dole out food, love, exercise, toys, and attention all for free and in
return you get lots of unruly behavior?  The philosophy that "nothing in life is free" simply means taking all of those
great things that you already give out for free and using them as rewards for your pet's good behavior.  Now your dog will
work hard to earn food, love, and play by offering the behaviors you have trained and enjoy.

Management: the best way to stop an unwanted behavior is to prevent it from happening in the first place.  Managing
your pet's behavior and environment will create the opportunity for you to step in and train a good behavior in place of the
old one.  Proper management is also extremely important in cases involving aggression so that everyone (including your
pet) remains safe.

Counterconditioning, systematic desensitization, and shaping: these are some of the advanced methods that are used for
more complex behavior issues such as fear of strangers, separation anxiety, and aggression.
